All About Emeralds

We’ve blogged about the growing popularity of emeralds in the past, but as they are the birthstone for May, we think they deserve another post!

The myth and lore surrounding emeralds has been around for centuries.  Aristotle is said to have believed that emeralds can increase a person’s importance, settle litigation and prevent epilepsy (among other things).

Women from Cleopatra to Elizabeth Taylor, have found emeralds equally as enchanting, if not for their supposed powers, then for their unequalled beauty.

So, to all you May babies, SES is here to help you flaunt your stunning birthstone.  From bracelets and earrings, to rings and necklaces, you can count on us to deck you out in the gems you deserve to wear!

A Royal Anniversary

Much has happened since last year’s highly-anticipated royal wedding,  and throughout it all, former commoner Kate Middleton, has truly proven her own.

...or hat?

Tiara?

In fact, Duchess was not the only title bestowed upon her.  Kate was also named “Hat Person of the Year” by the Headwear Association, as well as appearing on numerous “best dressed” lists.  There is no disputing that she deserved all honors!

While tiaras might not have become trendy headgear for us commoners, Kate has, with the help of the Princess Di ring, increased the popularity of sapphire jewels.  And of course, here at SES we embrace such trends!

The only question that remains is what Prince William will give his wife on such an important occasion as a first year wedding anniversary. While a traditional UK first anniversary gift is cotton, we think Prince William should nix that and go straight for the jewels…maybe some more sapphires to accompany that ring? I guess we will just have to wait and see…

In the meantime, if you are looking for some royally beautiful jewelry, be sure to check out our selection of color rings here!

The Ring We’ve All Been Waiting For…

After seven years and six kids, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have decided that it’s time to make it official.  And the ring that Pitt designed for Jolie certainly makes a statement!

Created by LA jeweler Robert Procop, the reportedly 16ctw ring features emerald-cut diamonds, set in platinum, which is estimated to be worth around $500,000.

Clearly, some things are worth waiting for!

Gold In the News

According to this JCK online article, the price of gold is projected to hit-and surpass-$2000 per ounce this year.  High demand from Central Banks, in addition to the Eurozone debt crisis, contribute to this expectation.

It is, perhaps, for this reason that many consumers, who previously would not consider platinum due to its price, are now seeing it as an attractive option.  As this article found, retailers are finding it easier to sell the platinum option to their customers.  Since the prices are so close, consumers are recognizing that the quality of platinum is perhaps a more worthwhile investment.

On the other side, there are many consumers who do not keep up with current metal prices, and are unaware of the price similarity.  Perhaps if more were aware, platinum would become the metal of choice.

Gearing Up for the Oscars!

The pinnacle of award season is almost here, with this Sunday’s 84th Annual Academy Awards.

In the years since the ceremony’s establishment, the clothes and jewelry that the star-studded event features have become almost as (if not more!) important as the actual awards.

We will be watching with bated breath to see what jewelry rocks the red carpet, and expect to see some similar looks to those that appeared at the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes.

Sunday night’s Grammy awards were all about Adele.

Not only was she the star act of the night, but the sensational singer went home with a whopping six Grammys, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Solo Pop Performance.

Adele’s sparkle was only accentuated by her jewelry–diamond Cartier Habana earrings and a diamond Cartier Nigeria ring finished up her winning look!

Super Bowl Bling

Like most New Yorkers watching the Super Bowl this past Sunday night, we were primarily interested in seeing who would win the coveted championship, but not entirely.  Our focus was also on what the winning team’s Super Bowl ring would look like.

Notoriously frosted in diamonds, the Super Bowl ring is a naturally coveted item.

As Michael Strahan, former Giants defensive end once stated, “A Super Bowl ring should be a ten tabler, a ring you can see from ten tables away!”

SAG’s Stunners

With the awards season in full swing, celebrities let out all the stops during last night’s 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

Jewels of all shapes and sizes glittered on nominees and non-nominees alike.  From Angelina Jolie’s vintage black and gold earrings,

to nominee Jessica Chastain’s sapphire and diamond jewels, the one trend that really stood out was oversized and colored drop earrings.

Simply stunning!
